V. Mark Durand, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Psychology Department at the State University of New York at Albany. His research and clinical work with people having behavior problems over the last 15 years has resulted in numerous journal publications and a recent book detailing a positive treatment approach (Durand, 1990). His current interests involve the continued validation of positive treatments for severe behavior problems, treating sleep disorders in persons with disabilities, and developing techniques for improving social relationships between students with severe disabilities and their peers without disabilities.
Daniel Crimmins, Ph.D., is Director of Psychology at the Westchester Institute for Human Development, a University Affiliated Program in Valhalla, New York. He is also a member of the faculty at the New York Medical College. Dr. Crimmins has a long term interest in developing nonaversive interventions for persons with challenging behaviors. He has worked with a range of school and service programs in meeting the needs of persons with severe disabilities in community settings.
